A Campus of Constant Surprises!

One of the (many) things I love about Duke’s campus is the main quad. As soon as the weather turns warm and sunny, it bursts into a bustle of frisbee throwing, music blasting, and sun-soaking. These things are typical… but I’ve learned to always expect the unexpected out on the quad. Last Friday, while strolling around Springternational (an annual festival celebrating international cultures), all of a sudden a Michael Jackson started blasting over a loud speaker and a huge crowd of women burst into a flash mob!

It turns out that the flash mob was organized for an incredible cause. In Muhuru Bay, Kenya, to prove that they can be heard and seen in public, some female WISER students staged a flash mob in the city center. In response to their bravery, Baldwin Scholars and WISER at Duke staged a women’s flash mob too. The flash mob video is being sent back to the WISER girls for support.

    Hi Ada!

I am so glad to hear you are interested in Duke!! I encourage you to check out these links from the Duke Admissions site on What We Seek and the Class of 2015 profile to get a ballpark idea of current students’ figures. However, Duke does not have a minimum required score for either the SAT or ACT, nor a minimum required GPA or class rank. Every case is different, and things like essays and supplements can really make a difference. Good luck working on your application! :) Feel free to email me with any other questions at monica.hogan@duke.edu.

    Best,
    Monica

Looks like you’ve managed to pull this flash mob off quite successfully! Were there many surprised bystanders?: )

Hi Brian! The flash mob was really neat and caught many of us by surprise. The neatest thing was that Blue Devil Days was happening at the same time, so we had a few hundred prospective students and their parents who got to join in the fun!
